Holy good times, Batman! There are crazy deals out there right now. So, it’s just the right time to buy. Don’t worry about what will work with the other pieces. I’ve got you covered. Just get what you like and we’ll take a look together. Enough chatting, off we go!
Our goal is to ensure you feel like your authentic, powerhouse self at work and at home. That means we need to be sure you are comfortable and confident so that your leadership skills can shine. First up, we need something equestrian-inspired that feels modern and polished. THIS coat is all the things. Seriously. Wear it to work with the sweater, pants and shoe combo below. Or try it with a skinnier leg (there are plenty on the list). On the weekend, this coat is just right, too. Wear it with any of the denim on this list and any of the shoes. Any of them? Yes, ma’am! I’m loving it with the Docs or the loafers, but any pair works well.
What’s more English Countryside than a cable knit sweater? Often, they have a crewneck and are bulky, so the fit is a bit of a struggle for your body type. That’s why were moving toward this elevated option. Lighter weight, it can be layered under the coat above. It’s cashmere, so expect this to be super soft and the length balances your vertical body type. Try a collared shirt underneath for yet another way to draw the eye in and communicate your personal style.
Yes, you can wear that sweater on the weekend. But, if you’d like to elevate it for work, try a wide leg pant like the ponte option below. This pant is a MAJOR win. It comes in three colors and all of them are super useful for you, so go with the colors that appeal to you most. Ponte pants are super comfortable and this pair is available in long, as well. A wide leg pant will balance your frame and can be worn to work or on the weekend, depending on styling.
Narrow shoes are going to make your life MUCH easier. Loafers, driving shoes and the like are just right for your style and for your workday. Wear these with any of style on this list and feel confident wearing these throughout the year. Both are also comfort brands so expect these to feel good.
I am obsessed with this coat for you. It’s on sale, which is incredible. I love it because it’s a twist on a classic. Plus, you love orange but it doesn’t necessarily work near your face. And, of course, this is flattering for your figure, too. Really, you can wear this everyday. It says, “powerhouse” for sure. Try it on the weekend, too. It’s great with jeans. You’ll also appreciate that it is long enough over a dress for colder days.
It’s time for some new jeans. I’ve listed several denim options on this list. First up, American Eagle is shockingly awesome. Denim comes in lengths and you can even hit the downtown store to try on the different length jeans. The prices are unbeatable and the denim doesn’t stretch out. Try this high waisted dark skinny pair for an elevated and comfortable look.
Another item I’m totally enamored with. While these flats don’t come in narrow, they are Boden, and Boden shoes have worked for you in the past. They are on sale and are the ideal pop of color you need. They are dreamy with the coat above and you’ll quickly discover that they actually work with the majority of pieces on this list. Big fan.
It’s true, you don’t have a sea of florals in your current wardrobe. But, it’s time with freshened things up with prints that feel authentic to your style. This blazer is, in a word, bad ass. I guess that’s technically two words…. Pair it with denim and a Breton top. Or opt for the wide leg pants or cigarette pants on this list. If mixing prints feels too bold, a simple shell will do. Trust me. Options abound.
Why go with a traditional Breton tee when you can find something off the beaten path with this style. The feminine sleeve is fun and understated. It’s also super comfortable, true to your style and easy to mix and match on the weekend or at work.
Yes, you can wear denim to work. Try this cigarette pant as an alternative to a pair of jeans. These are a dream because they are flattering, affordable and will coordinate just as well as a pair of blue jeans. You’ll find yourself wearing them regularly.
Just in case the orange were too bold, here’s the nude version. It wouldn’t be wrong to get both.
You’ll certainly need a powerhouse dress. THIS is the one. It’s flattering, comfortable and works easily without layering. Although, it’s also just right under a blazer and this list has lots of those to choose from. Also, consider transforming it into a skirt by layering a v-neck or crewneck sweater over top. Bam!
Did someone say, “tweed?”
Another small feature that accomplishes so much, elbow patches on this v neck sweater will get you to love it even more. The price will help, too. Layer this up for work or play.
Modern DesignerV-Neck Step Hem Tonal Patch Sweater. Available in multiple colors. Nordstrom Rack. Was: $90. Now: $24.
More denim options. High waisted jeans feel so good because they minimize your stomach. Ankle length jeans work well because they draw the eye to your ankles, balancing your frame. Two great choices here: American Eagle for the deal of the century or Good American for an especially flattering pair of jeans in a high quality option. Choosing between the two is really about deciding how much you want to invest. You might consider trying Good American the next time you are in Nordstrom. They work well for your body type:)
Ta-da! How could I complete this list without the ideal pair of Docs?! This pale teal pair is SO right. Try it with the outfit above- the burgundy sweater, tweed jacket and jeans. That’s just the beginning. These work with an array of outfits for the weekend and will last for years. You can put inserts in them. Feel free to swing by the Dr. Marten’s store with your inserts to try it out. Or order online.
Dr. Martens 1461 Core Pale Teal Virginia. Zappos. $120. (medium width)
It’s important that you have layering tops in fabrics that feel good to you. This satin top should work well. It’s available in multiple colors, comfortable and can be tucked or left loose.
Vince Camuto Rumpled Satin Blouse. Available in a zillion colors. Was: $59. Now: $32.45–$38.90.
The Kady pant should work well for your figure. The denim pants above are the same cut. I’m adding a pair of, “work pants” here so you have a traditional option that is in a modern style. When you order items from this list, be sure you end up with at least one pair of navy pants and a pair of black pants.
More slip on shoes that will look good and feel good. Consider adding your inserts to help prevent slipping, too. I love this pair of Naturalizers. Regardless of which pair you choose, we want to be sure you have a navy pair of shoes as those will work with the vast majority of your collection.
Naturalizer Emiline. Available in multiple colors and narrow. (navy print shown). Zappos. Was: $89. Now: $62.
First thing first, we’ll be tying the scarf differently than in these images:) Tie is lower, so it lies with the v-neck for a more effortless vibe. I’m a giant fan of this style for you. Personally, I vote for the polka dot, but if that doesn’t speak to you, go for the burgundy. I’m not sure about the fabric until it arrives. So, be aware of that variable.
These pants are so awesome. The soldier stripe is crazy flattering and the style speaks to your vibe. These are easier to pair than you might imagine. In general, just finish off with a pair of black shoes (to coordinate with the stripe) and the top becomes easier. In this example, I love either of the tops above and the black shoes below. Alternatively try a white top and the orange shoes. Feel free to add your black blazer. So good.
A two inch heel with an ankle strap. These heels are nice and chunky for more stability and the style will work for a number of years. Try these with dresses or pants. They also work with or without hosiery, so that’s helpful, too.
MICHAEL Michael Kors Estelle Ankle Strap. Available in two colors. Zappos. $120.
A soft chambray shirt is essential for you. Think of this as a pair of jeans on top. It works with any pattern or print that you may struggle to match. I also love the collar popping out of your sweaters to draw the eye in and communicate your style. Yes, you can wear it with blue jeans and a cardigan. Done and done.
Melrose and MarketSide Button Chambray Top. Nordstrom Rack. $34.
This neoprene skirt is a bit of a departure from the rest of the list. And yet, it’s not. The menswear-inspired houndstooth is right on and the fun colors are just right, as well. Neoprene is a dream. It’s effortless to care for, virtually wrinkle free and that means it travels well. This skirt is available in solids, too. Just layer your top to hit the lowest part of your stomach for the most flattering fit.
A similar style to the heels above, this time an easy to work with taupe. Also, these are Rockports. Expect maximum comfort. This color works with every outfit similar to, “nude” shoes that are an extension of your natural skin tone.
Rockport Total Motion Novalie Anklestrap. Available in two colors. Zappos. Was: $129. Now: $104.
Shapeless shifts can work very well for you. This one has a lovely v-neck and 3/4 length sleeve. Wear it solo or layer any of the jackets on this list or your grandpa cardigan over top. Finish with ankle boots, flats or the chunky heels on this list.
Another easy piece that works with everything: the denim jacket. This is sure to become a go-to.
It’s nice to have tops that feel good and look good without any extra effort. This style is one of those. Available in multiple colors, try it solo or under a blazer. It’s flattering with pants or a skirt. Love it with the neoprene skirt or skinny jeans, if you find you’d like to minimize your stomach more.
And you thought I had forgotten your love of plaid! Never! This is how you do plaid. It’s intentional, polished and easy to pair. Try this with the denim blazer, the top above (white or green), and the shoes below. Or pair it with the chambray shirt. Truly, these work with a number of options and they’ll make you happy:)
You mentioned that open toed shoes work well for you so I wanted to be sure to include a great pair for spring. These work well with pants, skirts or dresses.
CC CORSO COMO®. Rasque Sandal. Available in three colors. Nordstrom. Was: $98. Now: $59.
This color is ideal. This photo: not so much. Click through and you are really going to enjoy this one. It’s flattering, comfortable and very cool. You are likely to wear this more on the weekend. That being said, it can work very well at work, too. Try it with the plaid pants above and a navy or black loafer. Or opt for jeans and the Docs. That’s just the beginning.
Another stellar loafer! This one offers a fun pop of color and works especially well with burgundy.
You will adore this blazer when you see more photos. It has the details you will appreciate and the fit that flatters. You may notice that I’ve moved toward navy more than black on this list. It will make your life easier when it comes to pairing and is more flattering for your skin tone.
Yellow! It’s a risk. If it’s going to work, this just might be the yellow to do it. The details on the arms and the v-neck make this a stellar cut and this sweater will layer beautifully under all the jackets on this list. It’s also available in other colors, should you be inclined to go that direction.
Love this! And you can wear it with or without the belt. We can experiment.
If you are going to wear a small cardigan, this is it.
A flattering, comfortable, high quality tee for layering.
I know distressed jeans seem crazy. But they are modern, flattering and will balance out super polished, preppie, pieces. Plus this is a great price for experimentation.
Another spring option with a solid heel and ankle strap. Check out all the colors!
Yes!
Few things are as magical as a knit blazer. It helps you ride the line between dressy and casual. I love the detail on the pop collar. This really is a useful option that you’ll wear on the weekend and during the week.
This color is gorgeous. I really love it with the blazer above. Another useful, layering piece that keeps your outfit elevated.
I’m loving the top above with the burgundy blazer, navy or black pants or a pair of jeans and these yellow shoes.
As we wrap things up, I saw this waterproof rain coat and HAD to include it. It’s not often you see one of those that communicates your personal style. This one also happens to be on sale.
My personal obsession. It will be a love it or hate it item. Know that this is flattering, hip and comfortable. It’s especially useful in the spring or those in between days on the weekend.
Last but certainly not least, a great pair of ankle boots is a must. These come in multiple colors and in narrow. Choose your favorite!
And there you have it! I’m dying to know what you think. Enjoy your shopping and let me know how it goes.
